Officer Surgeon in charge of Hospitals
La Grange Geo June 20th 1864
Sir
I have the honor to inform you that the citizens of this village in reply to my appeal – say that they will not surrender their churches for Hospital purposes. The minister of the Baptist church says that if other towns will give up their churches – he will do likewise – but as Atlanta retains her churches – he thinks that La Grange should be allowed the same privileges. The minister of the Methodist church flatly refuses to surrender his church to use. When we pitch our tents we will have extended to the fullest – our capacity will then be fourteen hundred.
Very respectfully
